Good coral keeping book

I posted this before but what was sugested was a more than one volume set cost was way beyond my means . The other one was a ten year old book. Does anyone have any other economical sugestions for a book writtin in laymens terms and up to date that you found a book that every reef keeper would want and easy to understand , good photoes ECT. ECT.

The Super Simple Guide to Corals by James Fatheree is well worth the $10 I got it for. Also one of my favorites is The Coral Reef Aquarium by Ron Shimek for $13

Is eric Bornemans book obsolete seeing it was published ten years ago ? I'm about to buy a book on corals and I want the best for a decent price. I quese this is all an opinion.

Well I'm about to buy Eric Bornemans book on corals 37.99 shiped at Amazon .com Barnes and noble want 59 bucks for this pluss shipping . There insane. The way the economy is these buisnesses are still trying to rip the consumer off !! Anyone think there a better book ! I'll look back here before i go ahead and purchase it.

Simplified Marine Microcosms--by John Tullock.

It focuses on the natural processes and actual results and ease you can have WITHOUT fancy equipment. The book is a little dated as we all know now that SPS and LPS do like to eat!

Not knocking these fish rooms, but I think you could launch (or inercept) a missile from some of them!!!

Another is the care and breeding of captive corals by Axlerod. This book breaks SPS and LPS into beginner, intermediate, expert classes, discusses lighting and flow needs along with pics from where they come from on the reef itself. It was expesive--hard back with glossy pics but it is 11 years old and still looks new.
 
Boreman's book is still good, even if it is 10 yrs old. The Reef Aquarium books are also top notch, their latest one is a great read. Bob Fenner's book is another I would suggest. :)
 
I love my Borneman book. I refer to it all the time. It is incredibly thorough. It mentions just about every coral genus, although those that are likely to be found in the trade are covered in greater depth. On occassion, a coral becomes popular that was not often seen in the trade previously, and this has happened to one coral genus in the years since this book was published: Acanthastrea. It is mentioned, but not covered in depth. Still, I doubt you'll find a better book for keeping corals in the aquarium.

yep, i got in on that deal too!!!!! I love the book and will read it many times over.
 
glad you're happy with the purchase, Ronny. despite its age, that is one of the best books i've seen on the subject. i like that it focuses in on the corals themselves and teaches a bit about the reef. enjoy!
 
Well still in a confused state . Got my new to me book and still puzzled on a coral. Looks like a zenia tree but not shure. Store got it from out of buisness. I posted pic here but no definate. So what do you do ? Many corals look alike very difficult.
