Good deal?

I'm starting up a new tank very soon. My LFS is selling a 125g reef ready tank with oak cabinet stand. Also included are two 36" Solarflare DX High Output LED light strips and 2 glass canopy's. Not really a fan of the glass canopy so I'll see if they can ditch that from the deal. It would cost me around $1400 for all of that. Does that seem like a decent deal? I plan on keeping some easy to care for corals.

Have you considered buying used? It's such a common size that you can usually find a good deal

I doubt any experienced reefkeeper would pay $1400 for that set up.

My suggestion: break it down.
Look for and price out the aquarium ALONE... maybe include a stand in the deal. Used or new. Don't exclude metal stands from consideration
because you can "skin" 'em with wood to make them look custom and metal stands are usually priced LESS than el cheapo factory made wooden stands.
NEXT:
Focus on your sump and skimmer choices. You need to get these going before adding the lighting.
Lighting is last. Research it thoroughly and shop around!

One last thing: prices vary with region. Anything closer to NYC usually costs a LOT more!

I've been searching for used and it's difficult to find any drilled tanks. I'd love to avoid paying that much money. I'll see what I can find.

I'm in the process of selling my 90 for 100$ stand for 25. Tank is near perfect, stand could use a touch up. Deals are out there. Especially if you are flexible. 90 vs 120 is really just 2 inches in height for example.

It's easy enough to get a tank drilled and add a glass-holes overflow kit. I've seen fully stocked reef tanks that size for well under $1400

+1 for the keep looking. I recently sold my 90 setup complete minus lights and return pump for 350. That was sump skimmer power heads and stand/canopy and a pile of other misc. I didn't need anymore so there are deals out there.

I am exploring the used market as we speak. Much better idea so thank you everyone. I'm really looking for the length. I have a nice spot to put the 6 foot long tank so we'll see how it works out.

I have a all aquarium glass 125 gallon tank for sale with a homemade stand for $400. Measures 72x18x22 works great no scratches. I just upgrade my setup so going to get rid of mine. Let me no if you want a picture of it

I've been to steve's before and seen his tank and it's in MINT condition! Whichever way you go though used is the cheeper option and it'll allow you to stretch that $1400 you were considering on spending to include a decent skimmer and other equipment that will be esential in a reef aquarium.
