Pets Aquatic in New Hyde Park has been advertising in NY Daily News recently. So I braved the Belt Parkway today to pick up 2 x Green Mandarin Gobies [GMGs] (1 for each tank) @ $11 each. Great deal. Here are my impressions of store:
Reef/SW section of store, including tanks, is immaculate.
All the fish looked very healthy and there is a wide variety (of species and sizes) available. Very pleased with my 2 GMGs, which look full, fat, and happy.
Also large selection of coral, including frags ranging in price from 3 for $23 to 3 for $76.
All the livestock prices I saw seemed very reasonable, including Mexican Turbo Snails which ranged from small to gigantor @ $5 apiece. Couldn't resist picking up 6 small ones.
Staff seemed pretty knowledgeable -- asking me if my tanks were old enough/had sufficient copepod populations to support the GMGs before bagging them, discussing what they feed their fish (mix of frozen foods they sell along with some fresh ingredients), etc.
Speaking of which, they have a nice selection of frozen food. Picked up packs of Ocean Nutrition Formula 2 for $12.30 and ON Mysis Shrimp for $8.20. And lots of dry goods, which I really did not pay much attention to.
So if you're looking for coral or fish to stock a new tank, or a few frags to add to your collection, this place is well worth the trip IMO.
