48 long, 24 wide, 18 high

Corals take up minumul space (zoo's rics, shrooms and other encrusting type corals)

Not much rock and rock work is not very tall more its mostly flat base rock that is stackied in a few places so my zoos can get more light

I am looking for some cool fish that swim in schools or groups or even pairs.

Definitly getting a pair of true perc clowns

Maybe a mandarin after I research a little more and set up my pod culture station in my garage.

what would you suggest

I also might like to get a yellow tang

Is this already going to be a high bioload?

Threadfin Cardinals (Apogon leptacanthus) or maybe a couple flasher wrasses (maybe not the wrasses b/c you may be getting a manderin ... depends on how many pods are in the tank).

If you are going to get a manderin, you don't necessarily need a pod culture. If your tank is mature enough, you should have pleny of food for one (I keep one in a 37 who is always fat and happy, but he will be moving into a 72).

even if he doesn't need one, i would definitely encourage the setup of a pod culture, just to insure the success of keeping the mandarin

I was just thinking that relying on it too much could cause trouble in the future (for example: you have to leave the tank for a while and the pod culture goes south; or the pod culture crashes), but I do agree that it would be good to supplement the tank with the pod culture.

a small group of cardinals or firefish would be cool

Firefish :)

I'm pretty sure they cant be kept in groups, just pairs one female one male

Many people have problems keeping chalk basslets in groups, and catalina gobies are not fit for a reef tank.
