Good Local Places

I am setting up a 10g rimless reef in my office at work.

I would like to get a hold of a tiny bit of live rock and live sand to seed my base rock and sand bed.

I plan on getting sand and saltwater from the ocean. Any good places around here that has good water and sand, maybe even some rock? (in nature I mean, not a LFS)

All of the equipment for this tank will arrive next Friday so I have some time before needing it.

I will need some macro algae too. Does anyone have the pretty red stuff?

Thanks.

I'd be very very cautions using water, sand, rock ect from the area. Not saying you can't but a good friend of mine did and got a wicked algae bloom. Stay clear of the Indian River especially if they are dumping lake O into it. If you can get offshore that would be you best bet maybe around Peck's Lake. If you must get from the beach I would head to the Saint Lucie Inlet State Park.

All I use is NSW, but I head down to the jupiter inlet to collect it. The water around the St. Lucie (stuart) inlet can be pretty funky.
The sand is all silica sand and can give you nasty diatom blooms.
collecting rock will get you a felony arrest with very stiff fines.

I can give you a couple cups of LS.

As for gathering sand from the beach, as mentioned above, silica will be an issue, as well as the fact that us humans enjoy the local coast, and there are many, whom when there, litter. Getting sand from inshore has many potential risks. You can get a 20Lb bag of sand pretty cheap from a LFS.

Water, also pretty cheap from the LFS. Once you have an RO/DI system, even cheaper to make it yourself.

I'm in the process of moving from Jupiter to Stuart. I'll be living on Dolphin Drive. PM when you may be able to stop by and we can go from there.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.
