Can't confirm/deny ID on the snails. The hermit, however, I recognize very well. They are absolutely NOT reef safe. They're very cool active hermits, but they will devour just about anything they can get in their claws. They also get HUGE. In their own right, they are worth keeping by themselves. I would definitely not trust them with other inverts and, when they get big, probably not even smaller/slower fish.

Hard to tell which species just by looking at part of the spire, but yes, your snails do look to be Turbo snails.

Cheers,

Don

hermit is bad. i've seen one a foot and a half long from the claw to the head, and the mouth, wavy things that look like little scoops. (They move really fast) They look like they could hurt if they hit u hehe. BAM BAM BAM!!! the snails look to be turbos by the strong outlines of the shell and the green-ness but dont take my word for it.

ok yeah ill have to take the crab back. I bought it just cause i wasnt sure and that was the only decent crab they had. it was labeled hairy red leg. shoulda red that hairy usually equals bad. no one in this area has good hermits. looks like im gonna go with drs foster and smith. thanks guys!

Hermits are pretty much the least valuable "clean-up crew" members anyway. A good mixture of snails by far better. The only issue is that hermits seem to last longer.

I had one of those strawberry hermits and they do get quite large, I got him cause the store had him as a blue leg and he was $1, but he actually took down my small yellow tang...definately wasn't worth it so I put him in a FO predator tank and he actually was aggressive enough to keep the triggers and puffer at bay. As for the snails they look to be Astrea snails covered w/ algae

Neg on Astraeas, the snails are turbans ;) They may have a little algae on them, but the color you see is mostly the shell color.

Cheers,

Don
