Good pendants...

I currently have a lumenmax 3 over my 35gal cube tank. I have been thinking about upgrading my tank over the summer and would like to put 2 pendants over that. Now, someone on another thread said that light spilling onto the floor is wasted electricity... which it is.. But is that going to be a given with these pendants? They also stated that the lumenmax 3's were designed for wide tanks. Either way, the new upgraded tank will be in the family room/ entertainment room so I guess I don't want much light spillage. I could go canopy but I never really found one that suited my needs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Mike,

It really depends on what size tank you are upgrading to. If it's an 18" front to back tank, the Reef Optix 3 or PFO Mini pendant would outperform the Lumenmax pendants. If the tank is 24" front to back then it would really be a wash, and would be more dependent upon how you have it aquascaped. IF the tank is 30" front to back, or even bigger then you would take more advantage of the light output with the Lumenmax over the others. HTH

Thanks,
Jeremy

Well the tank I am upgrading to is a 120 which is 24" front to back. However, there are 2 megaflows back there, because of that, I'd of course have to move my rock a little bit up closer, so in that case, since it's not really the FULL 24", would you recommend the reefoptix then for me?

Essentially, I want more light in tank and less out in the room. Yet I want all my corals to have an overall equivalent amount of light. Lower light corals can be under ledges etc....
