is $450-$500 a good price for a DELTEC TS 1060? i've been on the deltec website looking for a place to buy one, but all i'm seeing is walk-in fish stores that sell them, with no prices listed. i can't find a price comparison for them anywhere. thanks!

Thats a good price for a TS 1060... I'm assuming that is used, they go for $1100 new... Things to check would be how old it is... If there are any cracks and what not... If the pumps have been modified in any way... Also, with the Turbo Skimmers, they must be used in sump, and have a constant water volume... Any fluctuation will affect how it performs... Another thing to consider is that each of the pumps cost $200+ to replace... And the 1060 has two of them... All that being said, I love my Deltec APF 600, and couldn't ask for much more as far as performance goes... :D

thanks randy...i ended up missing it by seconds. it was in great shape on ebay. so the search continues. dang. i'm seeing a lot of berlin's, octopus', and aquaCs around. are they considered middle of the road? i really want a good skimmer, but i don't want to pay a thousand bucks for it. thanks!

I'm pretty sure Octopus' are only rated for tanks up to 200g... So those would be out... I'm not a big fan of berlins or aquaC's... Though I do have one on my 24g... But thats just because I figure it is better than nothing, and is airating my tank... :D

That would be a POS... ;) lol Some manufacturers try and build a skimmer into their sumps... I have yet to find a good one... JMO

ok, no octopus, berlins or aquaCs...i'm not sure what a POS is, but its out too. :) there are tons of jebos on ebay...

There are a bunch of good ones out there...

Reeflo, Bubble King, Bubble Master, Deltec, H&S, MRC, and Euro Reef just to name a few...

Thats the EX 2 not the BX 2... Its basically the knock off version of Deltec... Kind of like Sprite and Krogers Lemon Lime Soda... Another thing to consider is that its rated for 250g... Your tank is 240g, plus your planning on adding a 75g sump... I like to go overkill on my skimmers, but thats just me... They're not much more brand new... But they take a while for them to ship...

If you haven't already, you might check out the Lighting, Filtration and Other Equipment forum for more info on skimmers...

Hmph... I didn't know they made them that big... Come to think of it, I do remember seeing larger Octopus skimmers at last years Cincinatti Frag Swap...

Reasonable prices... I'm pretty sure they're quality built... I only know people with the smaller ones though... Those people are happy... :)
