Good read...

Forgive my ignorance, but ESA list? I'm assuming that it's a banned or restricted import list. I suppose I could do a simple google search, but laziness is running pretty high, so I'd rather take twice as long to type this as answer my own question. :) Now I'm gonna go off and answer it anyway. What a waste

They want limits placed on them so they don't over collect??? Can anyone but me see how dumb that is. Seriously, they know better than anyone how hard they are hitting the livestock and if they need someone else to tell them when to stop they aren't very bright. One would think they would want to protect their lively hood by leaving enough to repopulate.

Then again I have never really seen industries operate on common sense.

I don't know. They may be aware of how many animals they're taking, but perhaps what they were interested in were regulations to make sure less scrupulous invert collectors were obliged by more than just their morals to limit themselves before they put too big a dent on local populations. Also, knowing how many animals you're taking off the reef and knowing how many animals, once taken off the reef, creates a problem in their ability to repopulate, are two different things.
