Good skim? And how to reduce smell

This is a day's worth of skim. Could this be any better and what can I do about the smell. Every time I am anywhere near the skimmer I get subtle whiffs of the skim. It is not constant but enough to be a bother.

That looks like some nice and yummy skim. Not sure about the smell, though? Have you checked to see where exactly it may be coming from? I never catch a whif of mine unless I take the lid off or am cleaning the cup out.

Is it in a stand with the doors shut? The only time a catch a whif is when I'm dumping it down the drain... it can get nasty. Try a box of baking soda in the stand to absorb the smell.

I'll try the baking soda idea. Right now the stand is still in progress and I don't have the door on. It is def. the skim cause I open the lid and get a real big diff.

If baking soda isn't enough, maybe activated carbon would do the trick. I know Eheim makes a relatively thin activated carbon pad (others must too, but I can't think of any), maybe something like that can be rigged inside the lid if there's room. Just a thought.

I purposely let my skimmer fill up a little more than normal the other day so when I changed it, I could give my wife a whiff of it unintentionally as she thought. Needless to say, I'm ordering an Avast Davey Jones Skimmate locker in the next day or two. :) that should help.

I dropped a couple tablespoons of baking soda in the collection cup itself and then stuffed the lid holes with baking soda infused stuffing / filter floss whatever you call it. Not sure if it's work. I was just looking to maybe trap some of the smell but still allow a vent of some sort.

I used the pads before. They work really good and they last a long time. I got a good buy on a bulk set of those from Amazon. I believe they were Eheim.

Well after adding the baking aoda to the cup no more smell. I am just scared to change it for fear of disrupting the balance...but it needs to be done.
