Gorg. vs hair algae: to cut or not...

About a month ago I bought gorgorian from CF. Excellent polyp extension, obviously had been growing well, so I took it home. I hadn't notice it at the shop but when i got it home there was a small area of dead tissue. At first it looked as if it was growing back over this spot but now I am noticing a bit of hair algae taking hold there. Question becomes do I cut out the bad spot? Cut the whole branch and make a frag? Just glue over that spot? If I do cut, should I do something to make sure algae can't grow on the cut site like a dab of glue? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Is it a photosynthetic gorg? If so, when I've had die-off on branches, they will eventually grow back over the dead spots.

Personally, if it's a photosynthetic gorg I would cut the dead part off. If it is the type of skinny-branched gorg that is likely to get bares spot toward the end of the branches, it's also likely to struggle to regrow in that spot. If you cut it the tissue will quickly heal and start producing new skeleton without having to fight the algae.
