I picked up a nice green mandy from Emilio (lilfishbigreef) along with some nice orange shrooms. The mandy is doing good but i want to load up my fuge with even more pods than what i have. How can i do that? Does any store culture them? Does anyone around town culture them? I have no idea how this is done but i'd like to load up my fuge with mandy food (it has a good amount now but i would like more.

Emilio, ive been shaking some cheato in the display tank every few nights when the lights go out to get some extra pods in the display. I see the mandy picking all day long off the rocks so i guess he's doing alright.

You can buy the arctic tigger pods from some LFSs (dunno any in miami that have them. Pat used to carry them at ReefLife). Otherwise just get cheato from some people. Emilio had a ton, I be there were pods in there too. Also shoulda gotten some of the refugium sand.

I would buy live brine shrimp and mix them with mysis shrimp to feed the mandarin. After the mandarin takes to both equally, just slowly take out the live brine. It worked for me.

hope that helps.

I agree w Ding2daDong, From what I've Read (cause i've never owned one) you follow those steps exactly and they live happily on frozens!!

I'm using Reef Bugs to boost my pod population cause I want a mandarin too. I hear the green ones possibly eat monti eating nudis which I had a problem with a while back. Haven't had montis in about 6 months, so hopefully there are none left though.

Good luck! I love mandarins...they're awesome.

I bought some "Reef Pods" from my LFS which is a pouch of live pods. I need to read up on how to use it (no instructions on the pouch). i think you dump the liquid in the fuge but im weary as to what i add to my system.

anyone ever use this product???

i am glad he is doing good so far, BUT as you said if you are concerned with your pod count in the display seeding it is the best way to go. CRF sells pod eggs, i am sure someone down south must sell them too.

as for the stuff you mentioned i can not offer an help since i am not familiar with it.

Thanks Eddie

also if you want some Cheato and sand from my Fuge you can come by anytime, i drained the tank tonight i am not sure how long it will survive without flow i will leave water in the fuge though for a couple of days

Since most of you live near the ocean here is the souce for endless pods. Method to capture live pods is too easy.

Get three beach pails and a screen of any type. A frying pan splatter screen from the dollar store works well. Take two pails to the beach and fill them with handfuls of seaweed scooped up from the water. Make sure you fill the pails at least half way with water. Go home with them fairly quickly so they dont stagnate.

Next set up the third pail with the strainer screen over it. Pour the water from the seaweed pail into the empty pail straining through the screen. Dont dump out the seaweed, just the water. Every time you pour there will be dozens of pods caught on the screen. Shake it into your refugum and strain again. Repeat as many times as it takes until you see no more pods, shaking them into the refug after every time you pour.

You will have more pods than you can believe. A free endless souce of pods for mandarins and seahorses to those fotunate enough to live near the shore.

manothesea...thanks for the idea but even though i work on the beach its not that easy to head out there with some buckets...

The mandy is doing well so far but i also have an active copperband and a mystery that go pod hunting so i wanna supercharge my setup and load it up. If anyone has a fuge loaded with pods that could spare some or even sell some that would be great. i bought the "reef bugs" and dumped it in my fuge so time will tell. I heard of tiger pods but have no idea where to buy some or what that is...??? Also what is "reef pods"?? and is it any good? where can i get some of these products?

any help is appreciated

thanks
eddy
