Got this 4 gallon 4 hp wet dry vac from Costco for $25. Can't wait to use it on my next maintenance / water change.

Thanks for the post. Because of you, I went to home depot and purcahsed bucket head. I didn't know i could use that to clean up sump until u posted it.

how big of a tank will this be used on? Dont you just need to turn it on then off quick just to create a siphon? I can see it being very useful for a sump though since its more lower to the ground...harder to create siphon

I only use my Bucket Head to clean the sump. For regular water changes, I use a normal siphon vacuum gravel cleaner hose.

I returned the one I got from Costco after realizing metal and saltwater don't go well together.

I then got the buckethead from home depot.
someone warned me before not to get that because it leaks. man I did not think water would actually start spewing out the exhaust hole when the bucket is full, and by full, it is about 4 gallons, maybe less. good thing I was using this in the garage.

any HD buckethead user experience the same thing? is there a way to prevent it?
HD is selling a real shop vac for $25, thinking if I should return the buckethead and get that instead. I like the buckethead, only if it does not make a mess when water level is high. On the Costco shop vac, there is a ball that float in water that will plug up the hole to stop vacuum, and the water level is really close to the brim. on the bucket head, it is like a cylinder and I think it is not making a good seal to completely stop the vacuum and water level is not even close to the top of the bucket.

I use old Aqua Vitro buckets which are taller than standard 5 gallon buckets, so I get more usable space out of them. I put a towel over the exhaust port on the buckethead in case water comes out, but I've never had a problem with it, as it's typically just a few drops (it never spews out).
