Is $59 for a 3.5" teardrop a good price? My LFS has several. I just can't decide if I want one or not. I've already got 3 clams in my 90 and I want to add ones I'm sure I will like...
I read on one of these threads where a guy said his LFS got them on a regular basis in the $100 plus range....so I'd say this wasn't too bad, even with shipping.
clamsdirect are saying the teardrop ones aren't holding up well now. He thinks the way people are getting them from the reefs are more harsh than they need to be.
Barry at ClamsDirect is THE CLAM MAN ! I have 2 of their clams in my reef now- (see my gallery) and I don't think I'd buy them from anywhere else- especially after his superior customer service. He truly cares about the animals (including me- a humble customer! LOL) He wouldn't steer you wrong to make a sale. There's so few people that take pride in their work left nowadays- I'd buy from him even if his prices weren't as reasonable as they are for that very reason alone! Just my .02- I'm not a paid representative or anything....LOL
PS- Most of the clams at ClamsDirect are farm raised, anyway- another great reason to buy there and support sustainable supplies that don't destroy native populations! They support responsible wild collection as well. Read more at their site!
Not sure if all are farm raised though. SueT on his site said that he doesn't get many because the people in Vietnam that harvest these don't do so very carefully. Browse their forum and you will see.
Hi,
Tear Drops are coming mostly from Solomon Islands and from Vietnam.
I saw hundreds if not thousadns of Tear Drops, never saw even one pc of Farm raised TD.
Yup- Most are from the Solomons, Pohnpei, and some other south pacific suppliers....and most of those are farmed to my knowledge- I'm no expert. I don't believe ClamsDirect gets any of theirs from Vietnam, though....
