My question is what kinda media should I use I kno I don't want bio balls but rely don't kno any thing els to use so let me kno what yall use and how well it works or dosent work

Most people use Live rock rubble or whatever pieces you can spare from your set up. Bioball are In most cases Nitrate factories. IMO

Use LRR like we spoke about . put the mechanical in the tray, LRR in the chamber and chemical filtration in the small chamber between the LRR and the return.

Yeah I am talking about like carbon purgin sp that stuff more than rock and sponges I should have been more clear

So I get it all plumed and running and my in take us more than my pump can handle if that makes sence so can a simple ball valve or stop valve be used to reduce flow or is that a bad idea

If I understand you are you asking if you put a ball valve on the plumbing going into the sump? the answer is no to that you can have a valve to isolate part of the system but when running it you should have it open the valve should be on the pump side to control the return water to the tank. If you restrict the water to the sump you could overflow the tank.

I'm not sure, but you should only overflow what is pumped into the aquarium. If you had no pump it would stop overflowing. Correct?

Well it is a hob overflow that is siphoning more than my pump is returning I guess I need a bigger pump but I put a ball valve on the over flow and now it is all running perfect does it kinda mdke more sence now lol

It's only siphoning what goes in the box tho, right? The only water going into the overflow box is what your pump pumps in there. Maybe I just need more sleep!

Yeah my u tube sucks the water oui of the over flow box faster than it was running back in is that normal or something I was doing wrong

sounds like you need a bigger pump like you said. But it should keep it's siphon even if the pump is weak and just siphon what comes in.

No your not suppose to. Then when the pump pumps enough water into the overflow box it will go to the sump. The overflow can't siphon more water than is supplied to it by the pump.

lol what i did was had the u tube hooked up runnong straight to the sump intsd of havving it fill the overflow box its hard to explain but leave it to me and i will mess it up
