My clowns have been hosting in my frogspawn for about a year now. No problems at all, and they are spawning! I watched them lay eggs two days ago, it is so cool to watch.
People say that the clowns will "hurt" the coral. It is a huge debate on the forums. My frogspawn is growing like crazy, even with my clowns "hosting" in it. The only problem that I see is that sometimes (rarely) the frogspawn skeleton will scratch the side of one of my clowns. They heal very fast though.
Even though this is a huge debate on these forums, I have never personally noticed any problems with clownfish "hosting" in LPS. Would I agree that an anenome would be a better choice? Yes. Unfortunately we don't decide where the clowns host. They do. If you want to give THEM the choice, get both. Before I got my frogsapwn they hosted in my bubble coral. I never had any problems with that either.
I'll try to get a pic right now of my clowns in my frogspawn. You be the judge
(Edited for me to upload pics)
First pic is my male and female next to their frogspawn. I placed the clay pot piece on the right hoping they would lay eggs on it. They didnt.
Next pic is the male guarding their eggs. This pic isn't that great, but I wanted to get them taken fast. The eggs are right under the frogspawn.
