GOT INDIVIDUAL REFLECTORS FOR MY NOVA T5's LOOK

I have neither had metal halides or T5's, but from reading what everyone right it seems like T5's are almost just as good if not as good as MH's. I feel like the one reason everyone still has MH's is because we aren't really used to change. Think about hydrogen and electric cars. Why doesn't everyone own one of them if they're so much better for the world? That's just my 2 cents!

P.s. I'll be getting a new tank with t5's in about 2 weeks. Individual reflectors on an icecap 660. I think it'll be better than my vho's.

p.p.s. drsfostersmith now is selling T5 VHO. I think they're 85 watt for the 4 ft bulb.

I agree with skinnyjoe, let's see what one of the experts has to say about PAR vs Lux vs watts per gallon. IMO Intensity is one issue and color spectrum is another. As most of us are aware different corals grow at several different depths on the reefs and each has it's own characteristic. We all have purchased corals that appear one color yet seem to change in our closed systems. Another factor that is to be considered is the type of feeding usage. Most corals use algae as a energy source and certain types of color spectrums as well as PAR readings and LUX readings have effects on that specific algae.
Just for the record I use 1020 watts on a 120 reef system with varying intensity during the photo period. For example, 260w of true 03 actenic starts the dusk to dawn cycle with an additional 260w of 50/50 10K/03 actenic added 2-3 hours later, followed by 500w of 20K metal halides for 6-7 hours which then ramps down in the reverse order. This leaves a wattage sequence of 2.17w per gallon followed by 4.33w per gallon then up to 8.5 for a maximum time of 6-7 hours. I seem to have good success growing all types of sps as well as lps and softies.

macaw - people arent driving them because the government doesnt want you to drive them. think about it. the oil companies are major funders for political campaigns. this is just scratching the surface. sorry to derail, but the arguement is debunk

I wish I had bookmarked the article that I had read on this one. Truth of the matter is that it causes more pollution to create the nickel battery that hybrid cars run on, than the amount of pollution that is saved by driving a hybrid car.

Found it!

aight sorry sorry. that was just the first similair situation that came into my head. but my point was more that we as people aren't used to change. if something works for us we don't understand why we would want to go to something else. it may not be true for this case that's just how I feel on the subject. If I could afford it I would have MH's with T5 actinics!!! but I can't!

I understand what you're saying, just remembered how I had found that article a while back and meant to post it. Interesting idea really, that the whole "hybrid car" may just be a farce.
