lol, but hes only 2.5 inches! hes so cute! I always quarentine my fish. Usually for arouns 3 weeks. but since hes a tang, i decided to buy copper and dose it in the quarentine. So i dosed the quarentine and put him in. My questions are

1. since i dosed copper ( which kills ich, velvet and parasites) should i still quarentine him for 3 weeks?

2. do i add copper every day? It says the treatement( im thinking it means one) last for one month

thanks

the copper should last, I would still quarenteen him and do water changes once a week just to get him back down to lower copper levels, also copper may not be the best thing I heard somewhere that copper is pretty bad for fishes in the long run (won't kill them but apparently it shortens their life span something about livers and onions, or may it was just liver)

In the future with tangs I would always go for the 4-6 week method and do hyposalinity - there is a certain SG of salt that ich cannot live in but your fish still can, and you keep them in for a certain amount of time to make sure the ich lifecycle is gone.

Don't have a tank up and running that is large enough but plan on it for the 125g :)

Congrats on the new tang i hope he does well!

when i bought him there were some rather large white spots on hiom. its not ick as i have battles that before and know what it looks like. The guy said that is was just his coloring that " adds to his personality." I think he looks really cool with it. But i wanted to make sure it wasint n e parasites

the large white "sploches" or spots are just signs of stress. naso tangs get them often if they are stressed out. you should notice them going away if they aren't already. (if we are talking/thinking of the same thing)

yeah it never hurts to quarentine anything. parasites could still be present even if you can't see them. just letting you know that those marks are stress marks, but I would still qt him.

No offense.. but this tang has one of the largest requirements for tank size. Copper is really bad for him much past a week.

When you do water changes it is going to lower the amount of copper. I recommend that you test the level of copper presently in the tank to be sure it is'nt too high. I would have also suggested you do hypo-salinity.

Hypo is better IMO, I hypo every new fish for 2-3 weeks depends on the fish if I don't see any sighs of ick, I have not lost one due to it. Good luck with the new guy.

200 gal? Hmm. I am kind of a fan of the smaller tangs anyway.. I'd like to have one in my 125g.. i am thinking a purple or a kohl.. they stay smaller dont they? sorry for thread hijack but its related

I would also not do copper. While studies have shown they aren't necessarily bad for tangs, it would be easier to just do hypo. You need to test everyday with copper. IF you have evaporation, the copper levels can raise to dangerous levels. I would personally do the hypo and set it to 1.009. Take 3 days to drop it to that and 3 days to raise it back.

If you are going to take the time to QT, I would do it for 6 to 8 weeks. I don't QT personally but would if I could

so you'll spend $60 or whatever the going rate is on a naso, which you shouldn't have in your tank anyways, but you don't have a refractometer thats like $40-$50 online. Not to sound mean, but thats just irresponsible... :(
