Never had a carpet. Can you please tell me what I need to know and do for their care.

Those tangsmight makea nice meal, they are voracoius eaters, feed it well , or get a clown to host it and the clown will keep your tangs at a distance from it jm2c

That's a beautiful carpet. Where did you get it from? I've been looking for a blue gigantea seems like forever.

you've got a blue carpet and an achilles tang...you *****...probably got some platinum perculas swimming around there too don't ya

Pray to the Carpet Gods. Make sure your phosphate stays low and your lighting is strong. Just optimal reef parameters.

From the pic it looks like a gigantea. To be sure, look under the oral disk for blueish spots. If it is gigantea I wouldn't worry to much about it eating your fish. It can happen, but it's not as common as it is with haddoni.

It looks like you have the gigantea in a good spot. It may move a little, but I wouldn't think it will go far. These anemones like allot of flow and bright lights. HTH.

My tanks a 200g. I run two 400w MH with Reeflux 12k's and four T5 super actenics. Tank has plunty of water flow due to I love them SPS. I run a lot of Bulk Reefs phosphate remover. A large skimmer and a sulfur denitrater. My water is perfect accept for battling with magnesium.

I didn't know if my lights were too bright, for this carpet. I know I read not to feed it for a week. It's funny cause I never feed my rose. It has got to be 18''. And I can't get the thing to split.

Gigantea does prefer bright lights, but you could always expose them to to much. I would just keep an eye on it, and if it starts bleaching, especially on the higher portions that are more exposed to the light, you can throw a few pieces of window screen over the tank to shade it.

I know I read not to feed it for a week.

I've heard that too. I don't listen to it though. I feed mine as soon as they are capable of feeding. I think it's more important to feed them in the beginning than it is after the anemone is healthy and well established.

There are two forms of BTA. A smaller colonial form that is known to split, and a larger solitary form that is not known to split. Maybe you have the latter?????

Have had a blue just like that for 4 years, if something could go wrong in my tank it has and the nem lasted through it all from fish kills to coral kills, I transplanted it from a 150 to a 240 back to a 90. It has survived my " I'm tired of doing this crap phases like a champ. I guess maybe I'm lucky or maybe there hardier than they say. Whoever they ar anyway.

I've always found anemones to be pretty "hardy", when they finally get acclimated and become healthy. Getting them to that point is where aquarist struggle.

....My water is perfect accept for battling with magnesium.

Sorry for the question, but how are you battling Mg levels if everything else is in-tune? Seems like my Mg is the easiest parameter to maintain and it's not automated like DIY Parts 1 & 2. All that I require to maintain 1325-1385ppm is a boost to 1400ppm for WC and weekly addition of 80mL. Just wondering why your struggling, b/c it does not need to be as slowly transitioned to a new level due to pH shock like alk. Sorry for the off-topic drift, but was interested in this Mg problem.

Good luck with the gig looks healthy by the way it's staying folded.
I would try and feed small planktor or mysis .
If it doesnt want to eat wait a day or two.
