I got my first clown today and when i asked about food for it i mixed up the kind i had at home with another kind. I have flakes that i bought when my piranhas were small. I thought they were the kind that was for both fresh and saltwater. When i got home and looked at the food it was "Omega One Natural Protein Formula for all tropical fish, freshwater flakes". can i feed this to the clowns. BTW is says made with fresh sea food.

Thanks

Probably you can, but I would feed foods specifically formulated for saltwater fish. Also you don't want to feed one type of food but you want to give a variety for best health and coloration.

I feed different item different days some times pellets(when I'm lazy lol) sometime frozen mysis/brine etc
I also like to add garlic to the food, keeps the
interested in the pellets lol

I do have pellets that can be used for saltwater but the guy at lfs said they like flakes better. BTW this is my first salty fish.

Rods food
fish eggs
ORA pellets

If you do start feeding frozen make sure you have a proper set up to export nutrients

Skimmers, macro algae and such. Feeding frozen with no skimmer is a bad idea for the most part. Maybe its just me because i feed my clowns 6 times a day

Didn't realize anyone set up a reef tank without a skimmer to begin with...I always figured that was a key component.....

I did, before i started feading my main tank heavily. I still have other tanks thank have no skimmer, just lots of macro algae, but those are lightly fed

another note to add is that you choose the correct skimmer for your tank. I go for skimmers that are rated for triple the amount of what my actual tank is. I had a 30g with a skimmer rated for 120 ( ok thats 4x)

+1 On Rod's Food

Once a day feedings are fine. Think of flakes as potatoe chips. If it were you, would you want the meaty stuff or dry flaky stuff?

Right now im just running the hob filter that came with my 3g pico. dont worry though, this isnt his tank for life. once i can unload my 55 g FW im buying a 12 g nano.
