I got my first macro lens today. I got a sigma 105 for my nikon D50. I attempted to take some shots beofre my lights went out. I would love some feedback so I can better myself at taking these types of pictures. Here is what I have done so far...

Great shots.
Few comments on some:
1 st shot: verry difficult one due to the difference in lighting from the bright and a bit overexposed polyp to the one in the shadow below. WOuld have metered to have the middle line of polyps (which is where the focuse is) properly exposed. That would result in clipping the better lit ones but guess as they're out of focus that wold not be a problem.

2 and 3 a bit nsharp which could be due to web resizing or oversharpening?

Love the one before the last best.
Would also avoid the centre position of your subject (research Rule of Thirds)

Very good shots! I just ordered a Sigma 105 for my D300 from 47st Photo, but it was sent "signature required", so I had to have UPS hold it until Friday when I have the day off - Darn!

Just my personal preference; with colonial inverts, unless I'm going for an "artsy" look, (like your image #6) I try to include the whole critter with enough substrate so that non-aquarium people can get some frame of reference as to the subject matter.

I like your depth of field experimentation in #2 and #3. These all look like you did your research and did it right. May you and your new lens have many years of quality enjoyment together!
