Got My Mantis in Today!!

He's officially in the tank, but now he's hiding behind the rocks and I can't get a good picture of him. He hasn't seen the little tube I put in there for a burrow, Hopefully he will soon. Will have more pics up when I get them.

Yeah, he's in his little tube now, and only peeks his head out once and a while. He's a cool little guy and I'll get him some feeder shrimp tomorrow and try to video it.

And his 12g Nanocube

Just fed him some ghost shrimp. He's doing really well so far. :)

glad to hear he is doing good! im already planning two other manits tanks, both are going to be custom starphire cubes

I'm gonna get another 12g nanocube to setup for another mantis. I'm hoping to get a Pseudosquilla ciliata for the next one though.

scratch the p.cilitata. On the site it says 80l/~20g for adult. Maybe a N.Wen. :) Also... I'm noticing some weird behanvior. I thought it might be my water, so I got it tested but its fine and I just did another water change. Here are the results:

Salt- 1.025
Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
pH- 8.0
Phosphate-0.2
Calcium-440
Alk- 11.2

He is just putting himself into a "ball", head near the tail, and doens't do much. What could be happening? Btw, I fed him last night and he was looking like he was doing better but he id back to the same routine.
This tank has been running for several months now, Had a Frogfish in there with no problems. Nothing new except for the mantis has been added.

Yes i've done a few water changes, I would add the water slowly and in small amounts. No, the water hasn't come into contact with any metals that i know of.

then it might just be a defensive behavior when you get close to the tank or maybe he is trying to stretch out his shell to get ready to molt

yup, i must say that from learning alot about their behavior from Dr. Roy's studies and from doing my own studies on them this might qualify to be one of the smartest creatures alive that can learn things extremely fast
