Got my Sump/Refugium

Here it is......finally. On the left hand side the water will enter & flow onto that tray which will hold a filter pad(kind of like a prefilter), below that is the refugium area, then protien skimmer, then return area.

I've got a question is it that much of a biggie that the refugium comes before the skimmer? From the info I've gathered & from a Protien Skimming book it isn't. I gathered that though some of the pods etc won't make it through, a lot still will. Plus I mainly want filtration out of this. Another thing its here so there isn't really much to do about. I know it won't make the refugium totally pointless.

Who made this for you? most people will recommend skim first into the fuge so you can allow the pods and other guys to get to your main tank without being skimmed away.

I'm not so sure that you absolutely need a prefilter for the overflow so you could still put a skimmer in the 1st compartment and fuge in the second. I'll be designing a sump in that manner.

I got it from www.acrylicsumps.com also got a thread about it in the vendors experience area.

Here is the deal though. I think having a filter pad on it or having a filter sock is a good idea. Honestly there is no way every single pod that overflows into the skimmer area will get sucked up by it. Also this refugium was mainly wanted for filtration & to control ph swings at night.

So it should be suffice though, right? Especially being I'm not to concerned with pods, though they would be nice. It is to late to do it differently & the skimmer won't fit in the first area. I know it isn;t setup to perfect specs, but it should be ok though, right?

Anyways I was able after a little working to get the skimmer into the first area & the fuge is now the second area. That'll work out better.
