I went to CEE's house to pick up the MH kits and frags showed him so pics and he said it was Hydroids. so i can home and started takeing them out they didnt sting my hands the ones that was floating in the tank stug my arms all the way up to my shoulders. didnt even know it till the next morning when my arm was iching. Though i would pass this on I think Runner had a problem with them also in the tank..... any easier way to get rid of them in case i didnt get them all?

No kidding. The blisters may still appear. It usually takes a couple of days for the very deep blisters to surface on me.

I've never been stung by them from the water alone though...and I've have thousands of them in my tank before. It was always after a contact with the rocks.

I have the rashes on the back of my hand and forearm from messing around in my tank all week long. Those things are strong. My worst stings have come from puting a rock in a bucket and pulling clumps of them free. They float around on the surface and get you good.

so THATs what that is? i had a rash all over my forearm too. i thought it was just really really dry skin from the salt or something since i've been messing around with the water so much lately. what the hell is a hydroid?? guess i better to do some more reading!

Could be bristle worms. Or some other secretion in the water from the corals. Lots of stuff in tanks make us itch. I just like blaming everything on hydriods.

A lot of people are allergic to synthetic saltwater.

Yeah...I get a rash when my arm touches the side of the tank where there's salt creep. It itches but it's radically different from the hydroid stings.

If it looks like little blisters that come up about a day or two after you've been in there...then I'd say that might be hydroids. But like I said...I've never gotten it from the water column...just from touching the actual sessile hydras.
