I think I'm ready to set up a new tank but I want to take my time and carefully plan which tank I want to do. I'm debating between the current-usa solana with custom stand and canopy, the jbj 28 gallon, or a custom tank (elos, starphire, or something along those lines). I'd like to hear what you guys think. I just decided this today after considering a few things so I still have a ton of research to do. TIA

Yea Pico go with the ELOS. I been wanting one so bad just dont have the $$$ so i had to settle for something else.

Jordan, Whats up buddy? I have seen the solana and they look kind of thin. Maybe it was just the model I saw.

I know that elos is starting to do nano's. You might have John check into that since he is an authorized elos dealer.

I would personal do something that you want. If it is a small tank, then a custom glass or even acyrlic with a calfo sytle overflow that way you maximize your coral space. Take your time. Plan it out. Think ahead and you know I am hear to bounce ideas off of.

BTW, glad to hear ;) You need to come over and see the new set up. There is a reason Lee Mar ruled the custom market for the last two and a half decades.

I have the JBJ 28g. I generally like it, but there are a couple of things you should know about it. Unless you plan on plumbing it for a refugium/sump, you will need to come up with a better skimmer device. The one that it comes with just isn't up to the task. I mod'ed mine with a Remora Aqua C and that is doing the job. The other thing to mention is that you will need a chiller as well. Despite having 4 fans to whisk away the heat from the 150 HQI MH, it will get to 84 degrees F without much effort. Other than that, it's a great tank.

Elso's pretty nice Steve:)

Think i would get a ELOS or also qet Keith Grandt special. that is the route i am going. with Keith you can do any dimentions you want

John can also get you one through Visio

Thanks guys. Did some more reseach and I definately don't want the jbj. So depending on the cost either a custom tank or the solana. Everyone is saying go custom but what size should I go? Looking for something in the 18-30 gallon range.

Mark, I'm definately gonna have John check once I figure out about what size I want. And I'll definately be taking you up on that.

Steve, I was beyond addiction a LONG time ago... :)

Jordan I thought we already talked about "priorities" today!!!!

Ill give you a good deal on my nano cube.....custom lighting, custom powerheads, custom top...or lack there of.

Hehe! I did the opposite and went the biggest Elos offers before custom dots! I think the smallest for Elos is a 55G System 70. You can get entire systems or pieces. Jesse is local in Pleasanton to us so you can email/PM him directly to visit his place. I was just there Friday. My first time at the new location since my first visit. Think of a suite/bay with Costco/Sams heavy duty shelving up 2 to 3 levels with Elos tanks. :)

Jordan,

Welcome back! Looking forward to whatever tank you setup. BTW - if you got with a 30 gallon, go with a cube (19x19x19).

Minh

Have John get you a custom Built Starphire and spend the extra money on better equipment.....................your fish and corals don't care how "pretty" the glass box looks as long as it holds water for years to come!!!

24" allows you to go with T-5s if need be... Flexibility.

Pico, one thing you should think about is set-up. I love the way the ELOS tanks look and I think they are very well made, but the just wouldnt work for me since they are rimless. So you would need to think about whether or not you want to go rimless first. If you did, you should go with ELOS. If not, try looking into a Lee-mar custom tank. Not sure what size tank you were thinking of, but i think a small little ~220G (72x30x24) should be good enough right?! ;)

Lee-mars are very pricey. I had my 60 cube starphire quoted by them and it was quite expensive. It was actually almost double the cost of my next highest quote.

But they are super nice!

If you did decide to go big Keith was selling that 108 gallon cube from the home show everything included and it was stunning looking. could be up there with the big ballers like Karl:)

Ok so now I'm debating between the solana or a lee mar tank. Just tring to figure out when I could pick it up. I don't think I can afford an elos as I don't want to spend more than 1000 on the tank itself. pretty sure I wanna go with a 20" cube. Anyone see the solana at any of the local fish stores? I'd really like to see it in person. I'm having Brandon look up the price for a 14" solaris now :)

Exotic has a solana. They also had two beautiful Achilles in today. Too bad my tank is not up yet :(
