got the 29 stand/canopy started...

got the stand & canopy finished (updated pics in the other thread)

i also finished getting the fan openings cutout in the canopy sides & today, i got the stand completely skinned & the shelf for inside done....but didn't take any pics :(

hopefully soon i'll get it all sanded w/ the palm sander & ready to paint it all. i also have all my plumbing fittings & my plumbing layout done on paper.

i have my baffles for the sump, but they were for the 29 & are a bit too tall for the 20L, so i need to take them & have em cut down a bit in height. i also need to get the glass to make my ATO/RDSB combo tank. i am basically constructing a tank that will fit in front of the sump tank. it's dimensions will be 30w x 6d x 16t & be divided in half so one side will hold my ATO water & the other half will be a RDSB :)

today, i ordered the single chamber carbon/gfo reactor from BRS & i'm thinking about ordering a 25lb package of the new marcorocks.com rock so i'll have a bit of extra to pick & choose from for the rock wall & rock structure.

i saw this pic & it was explained that leaving part of the back wall uncovered & surrounded by rock, your mind percieves that as the entrance for a cave & gives the optical illusion of depth that is not there. i think it would be more so if i also built a bit of structure out towards the front of the tank as well....whatcha think??

That's really kewl looking, but your gonna use a lot of small pebbles to achieve that look in a 29g tank! Plus it will take up a lot of room.... I should hit you up cause I would like to know how you built that stand so I can make one for my 29 as well.... :)

i have 30lbs of rock from bulk reef supply...thinking about ordering a 25lb box of the marcorocks new stuff. have a hammer & chisel to bust the rock into smaller pieces for the wall :D

if ya wanna come by sometime to see the stand & how i built it, i live at the overlook apartments between hickory hollow mall & m'boro rd (over near john...gsusfreak)

the more i looked at it, the more the flat plain large 34.5 x 12 area that is the front of the canopy irked me in it's plainness.....

thought about trim, moulding, etc....something to break up the nothingness. i've finally broke down & decided to put 2 small doors there....form & function LOL

that way, i can just open one of the doors to feed or do water tests instead of having to lift the whole front section up. i'm also thinking about making a small piece w/ the drilled holes for the test tubes like i did on standasaurus rex....only mounted on one of the doors instead of in the support bar like the last stand LOL

build thread updated :) ....now is my "lil red house" link

i keep saying it's "almost time to paint..." but i think i am done (except for the 1 item noted in my last post of the build thread). i sanded everything this afternoon & it's all nice & smoooooth, so i'll probably start priming & painting it the next day or so
