Hello folks,

Just wanted to share with you my great personal news. Starting in a couple weeks I'll be the newest marine biologist at the CA Academy of Sciences Steinhart Aquarium. Still in a little bit of shock. I never thought when I started this hobby 8 years ago I'd get this far into it! The good news is that I get to play with fish and corals all day long, the bad news is that now I have to figure out how to pay rent in SF. Wish me luck! I sincerely appreciate all the wisdom, inspiration, humor, beer, and occasional raffle prizee imparted from all the MARS members over the years, and will be seeing all of you very soon. You guys rock!

I am so happy for you, Juan!!! Congrats, bro!!!

Awesome news! Congratulations!
But I thought you were going to commute? ;)

Maybe at first. I need a few months to rob some banks so I can pay first and last month's rent.

Thanks Karl, thanks Sherie!

Congratulation. That is totally awesome! BTW - do you Matt Wandell? He has been volunteering at CA Academy of Sciences Steinhart Aquarium.

That goofy red headed drink of water? Yeah, he begs me to let him shine my shoes all the time. ;)

:thumbsup1:

Great stuff juan.

So whens the "behind the scene" tour taking place....

Cheers,

Jim

Man, that's a cool job!

I was going to pursue Marine Biology at the University of Guam but I got tired of living at home so, instead, I enlisted in the military- bad move! LOL :D

I wish you the best of luck on your new job!

Congratulations. Maybe you can get me some sargassum from there. Someone else was going to but couldn't. If you need to find a cheaper place down in the bay area within a short distance, look in Orinda, Lafayette, or Pleasant Hill. It's still expensive, but not as bad as SF.

Matt

Congrats on landing a marine biology job! They are hard to come by! I wanted to work in a public aquarium when I was in high school and undergrad, now I work for Fish and Game, guess that's close enough!

Thanks! That was me, by the way. The Steinhart is still unable to give away stuff like that. It seems silly (we just throw it out!) but it would open up all sorts of doors that I don't think they want (or have nearly enough time!) to deal with. I hope you understand. :D

:) BAR has a behind the scenes tour this Sat, with Dave Chan, if you are there stop by and say hello.

Ah, shucks, I normally would be. I don't officially start until mid-March.

You'll enjoy Dave. Nice and funny guy!

Congrats!

Check out some local private rentals in Chinese papers/stores or ask someone for help. When I lived there many years ago they charge the lowest rent. Not the best living accommodation, most of them were remodeled basements around Sunset and Richmond districts, but good enough for me at the time.

Now I remember why I moved here.
