Got the new Seahorses today

How the heck do I post pictures in a post? Anyway, I got two yellow reidi seahorses today. If someone can help me figure out this picture business I'll be glad to post some pics.

If you go to "My RC" then "Go to your Gallery" on Right top
Now click on "Upload Photos" on Right Top
Click "Browse" and find the photo on your PC
It can only be 50k. You can use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize if you need to

Once you put the photo in your gallery
It will list a "URL" for the photo like:
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/213280Feather_Duster.jpg

That "URL" is what you post in the message.

easiest way is to sign up for photobucket, its free
they have links once you upload the pics, just choose the one that has the

code on it, i think when you put your cursor on the pic you want to share its the bottom option, just copy that and paste.

Are Wild or TR also do they eat frozen or live food. Male looks like he might have a bun in the over from that angle of the last pic.

Sweet pics. BTW, if you resize the pics to 800 x 600 they will fit on the screen without having to scroll across.

I'll try to put some more pics up tomorrow, I'll try the resizing thing. They are Tank Raised. I got them from someone who could keep them no longer who has had them for a year and a half. He got them directly from the breeder. They are eating frozen hikarii mysis. I'm not sure if the male is pregnant yet or not. They had a brood of babies on Friday. He said they breed regurlarly about once a month. I'm gonna try to get some rotifer cultures going and I have a 20L I'm going to set up to try to raise some of the fry. Hopefully I can get some to live, but reidi are supposed to be on of the harder species to raise. I can't wait til they have babies again. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the compliments.

Do you have a chiller for that tank? heat was my only problem when I kept them. So hard to keep the tank under 72 without a chiller. I ended up pulling my heater because the house would never get below 70.

What type of seahorses were you keeping Ade? Different species have different heat requirements. Reidi rang from 68-78. I know H. Carpensis and Dwarf seahorses like it colder and possibly H. kuda. When I kept Reidi before I never had a problem with heat, but when I set up the 5 gal for dwarf seahorses, it was a real problem getting the temp low enough. It can be very frustrating.

Hey Michele,

I kept Kuda, the reason was not for different temp for each fish. There is a group of bacteria that occurs in many different strains called vibrio. Seahorses are (for some reason) particularly susceptible to vibrio infections. It just so happens that the most pathogenic strains of vibrio don't grow well at temps below 74F, so keeping your seahorse tank at 72F is a great insurance policy.

And this isn't a "theory". One of the Administrators at Seahorse.org is a professional pathologist. He did full sensitivity tests on the vibrio collected from many deceased seahorses and found that lower temps significantly reduced the growth of the bacteria.
Wait until summer and see a HUGE increase of posts in the Seahorse forum once the summer gets into full swing and tank temps start to rise.

Unfortunately I'm very familiar with vibrio. I lost part of my origional herd to it a few years back. The tank was infected when I added three new seahorse to the two I already had. I had them a year and a half before that with no problems at all. I now run a uv steralizer, and I won't ever add a new specimen without at least a three month quarantine. I've never heard about temperature affecting vibrio that much, it's very interesting and makes sense seeing as how pretty much any bacteria grows better in warmer conditions. Good thing I like my house cool.
