Got word on the Remora Nano Skimmer

its a hang on back design just like the original remora. if you have no lid on your cube, it would work fine.

the nanocube lid is going to be the limiting factor for you with ANY skimmer.

Why buy?

Why buy?

Why buy when you can build your own for a quater of the price? I DIY'ed almost everything w/ my tank so far and it has given me great pride and satisfaction.... my next project was to make a DIY skimmer similar to the nano remora.... its hard to get something to fit on the back of a 5.5g AGA tank!

why? for me it's because sometime time is more valuable than the money you spend on something. Having a career, a wife, a house, and fish tanks to take care of is extremely demanding and spending countless hours building something and saving myself 50 bucks just isnt worth it in the long run. I want a peice of equipment that i KNOW will work from day 1. no muss - no fuss.

a lot of the DIY guys dont figure in the amount of time or the cost of the specialize tools they buy into the total cost of a project.

nano remora

nano remora

I think everyone is jumping the gun. If it was just a matter of downsizing the original, wouldn't it have been out long long ago. There is more to it than meets the eye. Contact time for the water and air is essential to good skimming and I think they have had a time of it trying to maximize the nano skimmer to actually get something out of the water. As the Fission took a while to get to market and wasn't the answer to everyones needs, I think we need to wait and see before jumping in with both feet. Remember the Fission only cost a few bucks, where as the remora will probably be a C-note or more. That's a lot to find out whether it works or not. I think I'll wait and see .

what you seem to forget is that skimmers are what AquaC does. They would not release a POS skimmer like the fission and wouldnt have ever announced this one if they werent getting results and didnt see it coming to market.

A little too romantic of a thought for me. The almighty dollar drives every major corporation, and thats the point of a teaser: to increase the hype/suspense/desire of a certain product; to increase sales.

I think subber is right, i will wait and not set myself up for a let down.

I'm really not sure what you mean by this statement. Either you are being Captain Obvious or you are making no sense.

Of course profit drives the market, but what is your point? Do you think that a company (any company) make and sells a product just to do you a favor? Absolutely not. But what you do as a consumer is look for reputable companies that make quality products consistently. In fact, that is your best weapon as a consumer - knowledge.

Speculating that AquaC is going to bring to market a quality skimmer shouldn't be risky. They have a more than excellent track record.

I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know why Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m even getting involved - Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not even in the market for one of these.

To speculate about a company based on their track record is ok and understandable. But to get worked up and excited (which is what it seems like is happening) over something that hasnt come out yet or even been made/distributed, to me is a waste of time and energy.

likewise about getting involved, i dont want one either.

The demand will determine its price. When the ASM Mini was released it was $140, then quickly dropped to $100. Frankly, I was looking forward to the Nano Remora until it saw it was 16" tall.

I've been thinking about getting a 24g cube, cant deside between the JBJ or an aquapod. but anyways, what are the choices out there for skimming while still having the top on? I'm not exactly up to speed on the cubes, i'm a large tank guy, but I sold off everything before I moved.

hang on back skimmers will not work with nanocube or aquapod with their lids still on (without some very creative modificataion that is)

if you are looking to do a cube with one of the open top halide systems, then the HOB skimmers will work well for you.

my wife wont approve of one with out the lid. I'm either 1. going to have to be creative and make one work. or 2. Build my own i guess.

for what its worth, i've had my nanocube going for over a year with 3 fish in it and i dont use a skimmer at all. I do a weekly 2 gallon water change and and have never seen a need to have a skimmer.

i jsut ordered the 24g aquapod and stand, 5g bucket of I/O and some sand from Dr. Fosters. Shipping was only $15.99 for all of that, i cant believe it. I've gone that last 6 months without any tank and I'm starting to have with draw LOL.
