Gramma dejongi

Hello all!

I've been waiting for a long time to post on RC but never had anything worth posting!

2 months ago, while in Tokyo, I passed by a shop that had a Gramma dejongi and could not help myself but to take a video of it (which at the time was the hottest new fish available in the market,i.e. before G. personatus made their way). Amazing fish but imo not worth the price (around $6,000).

Along was what I first thought was a P. venustus. When I asked the guy how much for it, he took the calculator and showed me 680 yen (around $800)! I asked him what was the difference between this one and another venustus he had in another tank for around $70 he showed me the blueharbor calendar with the famous pic of the supposed hybrid P. venustus x P. multifasciata.

I will later post some photos of the proclaimed hybrid hoping to get some further details on this interesting fish.

The gramma is gorgeous!

I've seen venustus with less or more blue like that... I don't think that defines it as a hybrid, does it?

Thank you all for the comments!

@ SDguy I am not convinced either! But sure enough the guy was. The price tag shows there was something different about this fish...
Actually I did not notice until I asked about the price for the venustus and then asked him to bag the one in the video. He was all no no no!!! The language barrier was big as he could only speak a couple of English words. It is funny how fish language is international.
At $800 I was not willing to take the risk of putting the fish in my luggage halfway around the world; but it would have been very interesting to see what this fish will grow into.

Thx Yurivd, but I think it will be very hard to get a Cuba collector as, if I recall correctly, the station in Cuba has some sort of exclusivity with Dejong in the Netherlands, and hence all sales should go through them! I read this somewhere, so unconfirmed info!

Didn't think it was, yet can anyone justify the price tag on that fish?

I mean, I know the price of venustus vary from one location to the other, but not that much! At $800 that better be a special fish or the retailer has been duped! You cannot rule out anything with the Japanese now can you?

I wish that fish would have been with someone who can document its growth…
