I don't have an aggressive tank but my uncle had a nine inch grouper that ate everything his the tank except a royal gramma that was too clever to be eaten by the grouper. has anyone ever tried keeping a gramma with lionfish and groupers?

I wouldn't do it, it's cruel imo. It's only a matter of time before the gramma gets eaten or dies from constant stress.

I had a gramma for over 7 years. For three of them, it was in a tank with a zebra moray (never bothered fish), harlequin tuskfish, mimic tang, imperator angel, clownfish and soapfish. The fish did fine, though none of my fish were really aggressive predators.

Generally speaking, it is inevitible that the lion for grouper would get the gramma...... at least it is a very high probability...... at least 90% I would think...... your uncle probably had a particularly smart gramma and a particularly slow grouper :) ...... i.e. top 10 percentile and bottom 10 percentile...... :D
