I had one of those before...(i got him out of the intracoastal too). After he chopped the crap out of my finger i returned him to the ocean. (Through the porcelain portal)
I was sitting behind Marine Land on one of the small tributaries and enjoying a clump of oysters I had been cultivating on the end of a rope. I always carry some horse-radish sause with me when I am looking for specimins.
Ahh...the sun was a warm 75 degrees and a white Egret was standing 15 feed from me waiting for a handout.
I set my trap (small critter one) out about 30 feet up into the middle of the tributary and tied it off. I put a piece of squid on a tiny hook and sent the lead flying across to the other side of the water.......almost immediately I hooked a croaker and "whity" got his first handout! You could see the shape of the fish sliding down his logn neck...lol.
A few more casts and I pulled a strange slug like critter (hooked him) out of the water and saved him for my local tank.
The next one got the manta by the end of his spearer and he came dragging out of the water...to my astonishment....I thought I had hooked a lobster at first...as just behind me was Whitney Lab of UNF also...where they use radioactive iodine on lobsters.
Didn't really know hwat I was doing as I grabbed him around the body and took the hook out...!!
To say the least I dropped him into the 5 gal bucket real fast like!!
Well....I think I'll close up the Real Estate Shop and go for more....!
