It starts to get little pin like things sticking out all over and begins to turn white. If you yank it while the little things are just begining to show, you can stop it from releasing everything.

I've got a bunch in my tank. Fortunately I haven't had a mass event. Individual bunches of it empty out and leave behind the clear shells. Sort of ghost like.

A good skimmer will help.

Most of the time it will go from a dark green to a bluegreen.Then a kinda spotted look.After that they just lose everything till they are just a shell.

I just had some C. Peltata go sexual, what I noticed was the entire colony turned sorta clear with green veins running through it. I immediatly removed about 90% of it and have been watching whats left. Its slowly disintegrating, hopefully some will recover.
