Hi

I have a 30g tank which has been up and running for about four months now, I have a lot of algea growing on my rock can anybody advise me what fish would graze on the rock, I currently have two green chromis and two true percs.

Many thanks for your help

most tangs probably would, they are heavy algea eaters. Our yellow tang is constantly picking the rocks clean of any macro. Hope this helps :D

Is it hair algea? You can get a lettuce nudibranch, or a sea hare and they will take care of it. The only problem is that they will die once all the algea is gone, so you will have to give them to someone else with the same problem...

You might try some turbo snails or ceriths because it is not really certain that fish will always graze on algae. Snails have always helped me. If you want to try a fish though, maybe a lawnmower blenny or black sailfin blenny. Do some research about algae cleaners here. That will really help.

The only fish I can think of that will "graze" are tangs and a lawnmower blenny. Neither of which is really suitable for your tank. Dwarf Angels and some Blennys will pick at the rock and sometimes your corals.

Second want kind of Algae is it. Is it Macro or Micro? What color(s) is it?

Third if it is Macro Algae and a bunch of it and several different kinds (like in my tank) the best thing I've found to control/eat of all it is an urchin. I've had Lytechinus vaniegatus aka Pincusion urchin in my tank with great success at controlling marco algae.

Fourth Phosphate levels in your tank could be contributing to the problems as well. Check your Po4 levels.

Check over at this website www.wetwebmedia.com they have tons of info on just about anything you could think of asking.:bum:
