Great deal at Sea Schor

Okay. I finally found that place today and went in.
Well, they have very pretty sps, decent prices starting from $15 for a frag, up to $70 for a 3 x 3 inch piece. Some of them are very nicely colored.
However, the person that started talking to me first asked what kind of lights I had. I told him currently power compacts, but I ordered T5's and am in the process of putting them in.
He the proceeded to tell me that I wouldn't be able to put sps in my tank unless I had metal halides. I can only keep softies.
I then answered "Hmm. That's strange. There is a great debate about T5 vs. MH here. Also, there are quite a few tanks with pictures showing beautiful corals using T5's only.
He then backed off and said they have only been around out 1 1/2 years so long term, you would not be able to keep sps healthy.
I asked if they carry Oceans Motions. He never heard of it.
I also asked about Prodibio, he never heard of it.
I would probably go there if you know what you are doing and know what you want to get.
Otherwise, I'm not so comfortable about getting advice from them.

Hahaa..I forgot to also mention this.
I asked if he noticed any acro crabs that came in with any of their sps. (I would rather buy corals that have them)
He quickly assured me there weren't any, "no way", or at least he hadn't noticed any when he handled them. He told me they would pull them off if they saw them....those poor crabs.

Bought a Chevron tang there Sunday, great shape and in QT w/ copper now.

I was going to buy a Yellow Tang but they were covered in ich. The tangs were in the SPS coral display there so be advised to use proper quarantine procedures before putting them into your main tank.

I bought frags six weeks ago and are now doing great in main tank after being in QT.

Sea Schoor has some great corals and fish, but as always when buying from anyone use a quarantine tank.

Prodibio is a line of products for both fresh and saltwater. They are additives that are very concentrated and have a long shelf life.
I first heard about them when I saw Iwan's tank here on RC.
Oh boy! It was beautiful! He used Prodibio so I looked around and found a thread talking a little bit about it. It's from overseas and some people here at RC are documenting their use to see if it really does make a difference.
I decided I was going to try too. I asked if they knew about it to see if they knew anyone using it, or if they carry it so I don't have to get it shipped.

Great price on a Chevron as I bought one about 10 mos ago at Petland for about 70. He is a great fish, minds his own business and cleans up algae. I love his big soft mouth. :eek1:

So, if you were unhappy with the fish your father bought, did you take it back????
Sugar, you saw a nice tank and the owner/operator was using Prodibio, so you think that's the answer and any good lfs should be familiar with this product???? Good luck with that.

Hi Sully,
I have been asking every store I go to, this thread is talking about Sea Schor.
I want to know more about products talked about here on RC. I posted my entire conversation with him to support my uneasiness with his expertise.

Taken alone, none of his answers would have me second guess his knowledge.

All together, the entire conversation, in addition to the rest of these posts on this thread, would decrease my confidence to select him as my "fish guy".

Well I have been pleased with Tony's advice on stuff. I find that he is VERY knowledgeable about corals, and fairly knowledgeable about most fish situations, certainly the common ones such as reasonable occupants for a small tank. I have found Sea Schor to be one of my top three LFS suppliers based on price and quality. They seem to be upgrading their fish providing capability and they have always been near the top for corals, SPS or LPS.
