Hi Albert-

Ordered from Aqua Cave and was impressed with their follow-up and prompt shipping, found them helpfull on ordering, that I liked.

HOWEVER-- I have a concern, I received my order all looked great but I noticed the Milwaukee PH meter probe had encrusted salt on the stem and the tip rubber cap still wet inside with a very large salt chunck! I bought this new, looks like I got a reconditioned or returned product.. How am I to know how reliable it is or if the probe is old and switched with someone's return (I hear they go bad.) With closer inspection I also noticed the clear plastic cover was not stuck straight on the meter, part on and part off center. I suspect that may also be reconditioned or a return item! :(

I feel like a 10 Y/O at Christmas excited to get a brand new bike only to find that the chain was broken and it couldn't be used till January after it's fixed...

I had my order express shipped so I could set it up with the tank this weekend-- I really don't want/can't wait for shipping back and forth and then untill I get another free weekend to mess with it...

What should I do now? Can I trust the probe to work/last as new what about the meter unit? Albert what will Aqua Cave Do?

I paid more to buy this new for that reason Vs. I had a chance to buy the same unit for 1/2 the price on ebay and then I expressed shipped!

Thoughts anyone?

Hi,
No need to worry. You received a brand new unit. We do not stock nor sell used or reconditioned products.
Crystallized residue is part of electrode storage solution that manufacturer use to keep the probe tip moist during the storage and transport.
Clear plastic film on the screen is applied by hand and most are not perfectly aligned.
Your meter is covered by 3 years warranty and there is 1 year warranty on the probe.
Please call Bryan at Milwaukee Instruments at 252 443 3630 if you need to confirm this.

No need worry Soundsfishy, I have seen the dried salt before on pH probes. They use some form of potassium chloride (KCl)) as an electrode storage solution. It is a salt. When u are not using the probe it should be stored in a buffer solution or the KCl solution for long term storage.

Thanks! I was glad to hear that's normal, wish there was a note attached warning me of that.. I plan to leave the probe in the reactor for the switch. Once again it's notable that Albert at Aqua Cave quickly replied to my post and answered the concern with great follow-up, even on a weekend (Sat)! I'm glad I picked a R/C sponsor who was able to give such great service!
