Ok,
I was doing a water change and cooking and walking the dog and a bunch of other crap that I shoulldn't have been doing while I was changing water.
So I got the water coming out of the tank and going outside. During the time while I wasn't paying attention the siphon hose went to the bottom of the tank. Mixing up the sand bad.....very bad thing. My sand is something around 5 to 6 inches deep maybe a little more in that spot due to flow.
Well it mixed the sand bed up, letting all the nasty from the bottom lose in my tank. Good thing I was doing a water change anyway.
I siphoned what I could off the rocks and used a powerhead to get the rest off. I thought.
Well to make a long story short. I now have green algae all over that side of the tank. I have never had an algae problem. Its not slimy and its not hair either. Its.......well.......algae. I've done the normal of another water change pulling it off the rocks, increasing the flow in that area. Everything but chemicals.
I really don't want to use chemicals. My tang isn't touching the stuff, and well frankly neither are the few hundred snails and hermits.
Could the sand have really caused all of this? What is next, are their any other options that are not Chemical. I really don't like to add chemicals to the tank. It is a very last option!!!!!
any help?
