Green Bubble Coral Problems

I have a nice green bubble coral that was doing great for about 9 months or so and now looks bad. Half of it is trying to open like normal and the other half has about 4 or 5 bubbles that are extending extremely far out from the coral and turning to a brownish color while the rest of the bubbles are closed up on that side. Anyone know what the coral is doing? I'd hate to lose this one.

A pic would really help. Could be a brown jelly infection. Did you try blasting the coral with a baster to see if any thing will slough off?

Aquabucket... Mine looked just like the one you posted a picture of in that other thread. It looked like that as recent as yesterday. I turned the lights on after I got home from work and it looked like this.

I would cut the effected polyps off at each base with a sharp scissors. The coral should recover quite well after that.

Don't know what causes this but its happened to others and all theirs recovered nicely after cutting off the stringy polyps.

Some think that it might be a form of polyp extrusion though. It is another form of reproduction.

I'm wondering if maybe some salt fell onto it there. It is near the top of the tank under on of the returns and i do get salt creep up there. I might have knocked it in last night while messing around with the tank. I don't recall that happening, but it is possible.

I thought about it as some type of reproduction also but didn't think the brown part of it looked too good.

After examining it more the polyps that look nasty like that are coming from the center of the coral. Not the outer bubbles.

Quick side question Aquabucket.. Do you have more than two of those orange stripe cardinals in your tank or just that one pair i saw in another picture.

I have 3 all togethor and they are the less common yellow-lined cardinals which are a bit smaller and more social than the orange-lined.

how do you tell the difference between the two. I had one, not sure which one it was and the lfs didn't know what to call it. He look just like what is in your pictures. I'd love to get a couple of them again. They look great under certain lighting.
