Green Chromis ... Dying or Reproducing?

It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
I have 2 green chromis in my tank. Probably 2 yrs old each. Been very healthy.

So, one of them had disappeared, I figured it for dead. Put some nori in my clip and out pokes his head from underneath the rocks, where two large rocks meet in a little "V," no more than 2" diameter opening.
Takes a little nip and scampers back under there, bobbing a little.

I've been a little concerned the last week or 2 over him. Belly not sagging, reverse, seems curved upwards. Odd.

But now he's retreated back further into the crevace, I can see that there's a mound of sand something in the tank has built up, and the fish is sort of hovering around, above, behind it. All underneath this little joining under the rocks.

What's up? Can chromis breed in a tank? Or is he just gonna lay down and die there?
