Green Digi bleaching/dying from the middle

I didn't notice anything wrong with it yesterday, today it's not looking so good.

Anyone seen this before? This is my first experience with an sps bleaching/dying from the middle of the colony out.

Is there anything I can do. Or should I just frag the ends that don't appear to be affected and get the rest of it out of the tank?

A couple thoughts:

Did any salt creep find it's way into the tank? Looks perhaps like a burn.

Added any montis to the tank lately? Do you know about monti nudis?

Wow. That really looks like salt fell onto it. I see that it is near one of the sides of the tank and as ostrow said, it could very well be that some salt creep fell on it.

Ostrow, I know nothing about any nude montis... I tell 'em to keep their clothes on. Who knows what they do when I'm not looking though.

It was sitting by the edge of the tank when this happened, but it was a different edge than in this picture. I moved it so I could take a pic. It is possible that salt fell on it, since I did float a bag in the tank the day before yesterday and it may have dislodged some creep, but I don't think that is likely though, there isn't much creep in that area most of the time.

That would probably be the best case though, a burn rather than a disease or someother cause.

I've lost a few corals due to salt burns and I'd recomend fragging that coral. The ones I lost looked like your pic and it just got worse til the tissue was oozing off the skeleton.

Ok, did a little reading. I don't think the problem is montipora eating nudibranchs. There are at least 9 other monti's in my tank right now and only this one is affected.

I don't see any eggs and I checked the underside of the green digi and don't see any critters there.

I just decided to break it up and try and seperate the healthy parts from the unhealthy parts. Just have to wait and see now.

Looks like I'll have green digi frags to distribute soon if this fixes the problem...

I lost 4 corals one by one until I finally found the little b@$#&*%@

You really have to know what you are looking for and pay real close attention. I'd have advised you, after fragging, to dip the white part and a piece of the live part into a cup of ro/di illuminated with a good light and see if anything falls off. That's how I finally detected the nudis.

Inspect your other montis regularly for the next couple weeks from all angles just to be sure.

I'm glad I fragged off the "healthy" parts of the digi, the rest of the coral that was still attached to the base has died off. That was a quick demise.
