Green flowery things and clear spikes on LR

Hey I have a 40 gallon tank set up about a week and a half ago. I have notice these green flowery things growing and also some clear spikes looking things growing on some of the live rock. Just wanted to know what they are is all.

without a photo can't say for sure, but statistically and based on what you describe, I'd say majano anemones and aiptasia. (both bad)

Check out google images of both and see if they match.

You really do need to post pictures. Do you know how many green flowery things and clear spiky things grow on live rock?

Should I be concerned about the "sponges"? or should I see what they do? Any ideas about the green grassy flower looking things? How old is your tank if you don't mind me asking? I would love to see a picture! I have only been in the hobby for a little over a week and it seems that I eat sleep and breath this stuff. Would love to hear more or any tips or pointers on ANYTHING that you could offer me. or just be there to pick your brain a bit!

here is the complete picture to my tank... I love the look of it so far... a mix between dry rock and some live rock. I definitely feel like I need a bit more live rock maybe 20-30 pounds more but budgets get me sometimes.

No, live rock will bring in all kinds of things. Some people try to avoid those things, others like me will not worry about it unless they are invasive, nuisance or destructive. I think it just adds character to the tank and makes it look less like a sanitized hospital.

My tank is about 3 months old. Started with dry rock that I cured in a tub for a month or so to make it "live" I have only recently added a few tiny pieces of established rock out of someone else's tank for some bio diversity. It clear white sponge on it.

The sponges are fine. The green plant looking things I have no idea. I'm a newb too. I can give you a few pointers though. Quarantine everything. Don't add anymore live rock as dry rock is cheaper and it will become live rock. Get an RODI unit if you don't have one. Get some coral dip, and medications for fish such as prazi pro, coppersafe, and metroplex. Don't buy fish anything live from PETCO unless you are wanting a sick fish to rescue. Search Humblefish and read his post on quarantine. Be patient.

Thanks for the ideas and advice. Keep it coming! How did you get the purple look to your tank ? What kind of lights are you running? I have t-5 one white one purple... Look at my picture of green flowery stuff what is that orange ball looking thing do you think?

At first the green stuff looked like calpera though on second look maybe not. How fast is it growing or how long did it take to get to this point? New tanks tend to grow algae and seaweed (macro algae) because of the die off and cycling of the system. If it were in my tank I'd just harvest it and continue with setting things up and cycling/establishing things.

Nothing to be concerned about. Actually I find it fun watching the ecosystem grow and morph in my tanks. Even on my old tanks it's fun to put on the "Dr Science" magnifying glasses and check out the subtle things in tank--small shrimp, snails, new coral growths, worms...

Same goes for the clear stuff. Doesn't look useful to me so I'd remove it too.

Yeah seeing all the new stuff is exciting. And keeps me semi patient throughout the process haha. It was on the right side of that rock now it is on the left and not on the right and there are these little white mushroom shelves a little bit on a few spots. It's neat looking at all this stuff and seeing what I can discover

I would not be worried about any of this, neither of those things look invasive or harmful to me and no I am no expert I have been in the hobby for over 5 years and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable
