green fluorescent protein infection

Lizz- does your frag have it?

Geez, Gary! Your recent posts have had me hitting Google to explore some of this cool stuff.

Gotta read up on this, although my initial dig seems to indicate that the mechanism for this is not well understood. Hmmmmm.

there's an interesting article on this subject in the Nov/Dec 2009 issue of 'Reef Life' magazine.
I only just discovered the article today.
Apparently, Steve Tyree was one person that initially brought this "GFP infection" thing to light.

I'll bet RandyO has heard of it.

I have seen this on a handful of acropora corals and have been trying to study this a little bit. I read the article by Jake Adams when it came out but found that it raised more questions than gave answers.

So, I guess I should cross my fingers that the frag Gary sold me also comes down with it? I haven't noticed anything so far...

Jake suggests looking at this coral with NightSea equipment.

Does anybody around here have such equipment

Gary-

G has some cool shots on the Finger Lakes Reef page, under the Photography subforum. I believe the thread title is 'Coral Fluorescence'.

Cool stuff.
