Green Hair Algae OUTBREAK!!

I have a horrible green hair algae outbreak and nothing seems to work. Any ideas or anyone got a sea hare for sale or trade?

Hair algae only grows with excess nutrients, so you have to figure out the source. Either your RO is not cutting it anymore (which is what happened to me), your are feeding to much, or you have a build up of detrius/dead material in your tank. Adding a big clean up crew will not hurt, but until you figure out the cause it will more than likely not go away (at least completely).

I just had a major crash and it killed all my fishes, so feeding is out of the question.
do u think there can be buildup on the live rocks? or in my DSB?
how can I check or fix the problem?

I had this problem too! What I read on RC was to make consistent more consistent water changes, make sure you're using "good" RO/DI water, and to have adequate water movement. I would just buy the freshwater from those huge Glacier machines at the local Ralphs. You have to be patient cause it took a few weeks to get better. Also, the astrea snails always helped. The water changes and good water movement helped the most. Hope that helps.

When my lighting system blew out and I had no lights for over a week, I noticed that after I got my lights back up, the hair algae that I had (didn't have too much because I kept it under control with pruning, etc) wasn't growing as much. Pruned it again, and it's not really growing back. And to let you know, I have SPS and yes, they didn't have lights for over a week...wasn't a big deal for them. Might try this method.
