green hair algae

water parameters?
nitrate, phosphate? and i spose amonia too. How bout lighting? How old is the tank? Are you using tap water or RO? srry for all the questions, but its kinda hard to know what the problem is if we dont know the params...because who knows..it could be like 2 months old, in which case i'd say dont worry about it, because new tanks pretty much always go thru algae phases.

Maybe try setting up a refugium and grow some macroalgae to help pull nutrients out of the water column. What ype of water are using for your top off/water changes?

how do i get rid of green hair algae
I had a horrible hair algae outbreak a few years ago. What it took for me to get rid of it was a combination of more frequent water changes, addition of a refugium with macroalgae, addition of large mexican turbo snails, keeping my alkalinity/PH in good ranges and decreasing the amount of feedings. Oh, and a lot of patience. :)

If you want help you need to provide a lot more information. You have a problem of excess nutrients. The trick for ridding your tank of this algae is to make it difficult to grow. (Anything less is just a band-aide).

Post your pH, Alk, Calc, and Mag, and nitrate levels. Size tank, amount of lr, dsb (or not), type of skimmer, number of fish, how often you feed, whether or not you have a fuge. How often do you do water changes? Do you use "tap" or RODI?

If you provide all this needed information, people will help you get to the source of the problem.

Tangs, Less Light, Stop feeding, Macro in the sump, Macro in the display.

Sugar and Vodka dosing is dangerous....but you could read about it.

I kinda like mine...it was growing on the back glass about 3 inches thick like a carpet. I cut the lights back and it fell off in big clumps. My tangs keep it off the rock work.

It could be worse...I welcome Green Hair over Red Slime any day.

Just remember that it is helping the problem not causing it.
