Green Hair Algea/Diatoms Bloom!!!

Lately i have had a bloom of diatom on the top of the sand turning orange and hair algea has just bloomed out of no where!!! Its all over my rock work now!! I did check all my powerheads and they are functioning and i did about a 10 gallon water change about 3 days ago...I am not sure if it a lack of clean up crew or what!!!??

If its a lack of clean up crew what would be the best suggestion to getting ride of green algea and diatoms? i know some kind of snails and emerald crabs but any others...??...i know theres alot of threads on this, but i cant search and was wondering what everyone does!!!??

What are your water parameters?

how often do you feed?

what's in your tank now?

what kind of water are you doing water changes with?

Snails and hermits will certainly help... with some of the algae issues.

hair algae, i don't think snails or hermits will do... i've never seen mine eat that stuff...

My parameteres are very good and stable..! Could this possible be from a dead fish in my tank just wondering i havent seen that damn damsel in like a couple days!!>>>

I feed about once a day and dont overfeed! I have a clakii clown and corals..thats about it i have a few crabs and snails as well...I do my water changes with purifed water not Ro/Di water!!But it has never done this before...I used to get very light hair algea with just 2 powerheads and due to lack of flow but now i have 3 and i have a ton everywhere!!

when was the last time you tested you parameters? and what are you testing for?

If you are missing a fish and its decaying, it can certainly cause a spike in your water parameters, and cause excess nutrients that will then prompt an alage bloom.

I'd continue with water chages... and test your water parameters again to see what is high...

ammonia, ph, nitrates, nitrites and phosphates

Purified water? Is that bottled water from a grocery store? All the drinking/distilled water I have checked comes in around 150 to 200 TDS, and will definatly cause problems. Make sure you are using good RO/DI water at or near 0 TDS.

Yes either RO/DI or atleast those RO water dispensers at your local market.

Critters good for diatoms. .

Cerith Snails. .
Fighting Conch
Cucumber

(but don't go out and buy all of those, do some research, get eductated, and buy a couple if you feel you need them. PS Fighting Conch and Cucumber should be in no less than a 45 gallon tank)
