Green Hair Need Help

I just recently set up a 10g nano. I cycled the water for a few weeks and added live sand and live rock. Water parameters are good with exception to low alk./dkh. To supplement the alk./dkh ive been using Kent Pro Buffer dKH. Livestock includes one snail, some green star polyps, small featherdusters on the rock, and a juvenile true percula. Everything seems fine except a few days ago i noticed little green hairs on the rock. I turn the lights off earlier now and have been feeding the fish less but the hairs are still growing. Any suggestions? Ive kept freshwater fish for a while but this is my first saltwater tank.

Do you have a picture? Could be green hair algae or bryopsis

Bryopsis is feathery looking.....where green hair is...well more hairy looking

I like emerald crabs for the GHA...and for bryopsis start picking it off

Thanks no pic yet but im 99% sure its green hair algea. Ill check my LFS for some emerald crabs tomorrow.

Tank is only about a month old...i know i rushed it a little bit and that could be the problem but water parameters are: Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, S/G 1.025, Temp 78, Phosphate 0, Alk./dKh 3.54/9.9, p/h 8. i keep the lights on 9 hours a day. There are 4 led moonlights on all the time though.

Try cutting back on the length of time the lights are on. The algae could be giving you false nitrate and phosphate levels since the are consuming them.

+1 Jong11. I would also look into a clean up crew. Go to ReefCleaners.org look under quick crew and then your size tank. They are priced right. Husbandry is where its at. I had the same issue when my tank was a month old. I think its part of the cycle. Turn your light back for a couple of days, even in the wild there are cloudy days, I think you'll be fine. I would increase your CUC and frequent water changes.
