Green Star Polyp Growth.

I would like to know how to make my green star polyp grow do i need to add direct flow or medium flow or no flow. I have a 29 gallon biocube. 13 lbs of live rock I would love to make this grow onto other rock. Also can it grow onto non live rock?

In my 20 gallon, I have what I consider medium flow (constantly moving polyps) on my GSP and they grow quite good. A silver dollar sized frag I got has almost doubled in size in the past 3 months. I don't know if that's considered fast growth but it works for me.

As far as growing GSP onto "non-LR" is concerned that won't be a problem. As long as it's in your tank with some flow and the proper CA, ALK, and Mg levels are in there, you shouldn't have a problem getting your GSP to spread.

Mine GSP loves medium to high flow, higher flow will make the polyps actually longer over time. My GSP covers the whole back wall of my Solana and I love how it looks. Everyone that sees it loves how it looks as well. Mine started off as a frag about the size of a golf ball and now covers the whole backside in about a year or so of growth maybe a little less

would love to have mine grow onto the back wall (it will get rid of that unwater looking background) do you have any recommendations for a power head that would be good for the biocube (29 gallons).

i would say as long as they have flow at all they will be fine. If you want them to grow on the back glass just take a piece and break it off. Then when you do a water change just glue it on the glass and then fill the tank back up. I did this and they are growing like crazy.

i had a small frag but after a year. i got huge, like 10 times its size. had it in a moderate flow and fast flow. the only problem of having star polyps is that it can over take everything in site if u dont watch it. it can kill other corals by over laping the other corals. so watch it grows and if thats the only thing u might wanna have in ur tank, its awesone. thats what i have on my other tank (29G nano tank ) with a two clowns. that came off for my 150G. its all over the back and half way both side. even in the overflow.

I think it is a matter of time, not flow. Whenever I move mine to another spot in my tank they go through a time of adapting and then I spend the rest of the time pulling pieces off to keep it in check....so give it some time and you will see it start to form on nearby rocks (looks like a moving glacier and then the plants bloom). Mine have done well in low, moderate and fairly high flow in my tank so I will say sit back and give it time (kind of like watching grass grow...lol)

get a maxi-jet I have one in my 20 gallon aquarium and works great.. I recently got some GSP it was just the mantle with out any actuall polyps and it is like 2 inches long... after maybe 2 weeks it is looking great, now after 4 weeks it is starting to grow and attatch to a rock

mine likes mild flow, you just have to give it time. I got a free frag about 5 months ago and now it grows so fast it seems like it grows more polyps every night.

I superglued a chunk that I tore off to my surface skimmer box and its growing well on there. you can also tear a chunk off and rubber band it to whatever rock you want. I have also had mine 'jump rocks' to one next to it.

You wouldn't want them to grow too fast and if you do, keep them on one rock that can't spread. They get really invasive, they grew over my zoas and would've probably grew over my sps. :sad2:

I'd stay with a Nano powered Koralia.

I had a 29g Nano by JBJ a few years back and made the mistake of grabbing a regular non nano powered one....WHOOOOOSH! lol

I second what most have said here. This can be a very invasive species, but if you like it, go for it. As far as your powerhead question, I would get a Jebao RW-4. You can set it up on alternating flow and this coral will give much life and movement to your tank.

This is one of my rocks 1 year after I placed a 1" frag there. I had to remove everything else from it.
