green star polyp vs. hair algae

I am a bit new to keeping corals and I am going with softies for now. I have a pretty, little colony of green star polyps. I have also just had a horrendous invasion of hair algae, which is now is under control - thanks to some water changes and PhosBan in a reactor). But the hair algae grew over much of the GSP. I was able to pull a lot of it off. But there are still spots on the GSP that got covered with the hair algae. Will the GSP recover and grow over the places that it got covered up?

With the regeneration power of GSP if I were you I'd cut off the part that damages by algae and toss it, the part that's uninvaded will eventually recover the damaged surface.
