Green star polyp white growth?

I purchased this coral about 2 weeks ago. I just noticed this white area on the base of gsp. Does anyone know what this is? Is it just new growth?

I hope it isn't dying. It looks so healthy when lights come on and it opens up during day. I turned light on to take picture above.

GSP is hard to kill. It could have been damaged by moving it or irritated by a fish or some other invert, maybe even another coral. I'd just watch it and my best guess is will be just fine in a week or two.

The other possibility is something could be growing on it, like a small sponge?

to me, it looks like a chunk of glue is stuck to the coral. as stated above, don't worry too much. gsp is pretty hardy. it'll be fine. btw, how did you make the frag plugs stand on glass? was there no flow?

I've noticed it on my GSP, on the purple base at times. It appears as if the base is melting but seems to do this as it spreads. I just leave it and it ends up turning purple and new polyps coming out of it. I'm not saying there isn't anything wrong with it, but mine has done that, yet all it does is grow and spread. It is indeed a very odd, yet difficult to kill coral.

Check back with us in a week or two and show another pic.

GSP is in quarantine. Not a lot of flow but it opens great and looks healthy. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks for the responses. I will update in a week

one of four things IMO.

1)excess Glue
2)sponge
3)GSP that was not getting light, my GSP is on a rock and it curved to the underside of the rock, bone white and in some spots, moderately milky transparent. If it spent an decent amount of time hidden under a rock or in a shadow on that part, then it would turn white.
4)new growth. when mine grows in new spurts it is a white/extremely LIGHT purple color, sometimes hard to tell

5)Super rare multicolor encrusting GSP, SRMEGSP for short, my recommendation, sell it for 10,000,000,000.00 and buy a yourself an island with a reef :)

Hmmm... I like option number 5. All these years of playing the lottery and all I had to do was buy a $10 coral frag and cash in. :fun2:
