Green star polyps, friend or foe?

Dear all

I would like to glue green star polyps on my back glass. But I worry that I can not control the spread.

Please give me advices. How to isolate them?

You cant really isolate them. But if they grow where you dont want you can tear the pieces off

If you glue it to the glass, it'll grow from there and you can keep it isolated by cutting it back with utility blade. I think gsp background looks cool, I'm growing some on my wall.

Watch out for runners. Make sure to give yourself a couple inches between the glass and any rock.

I would never add any "weed" type coral. Containment may be impossible but in any case, labor intensive.

IMO the only reason why a coral like this get's out of hand is because the owner let it become that way. Once you understand their requirements, how they grow etc, GSP are actually very easy to control.

It can be a pita. I had a glass attached one that started on a 2" rock. I was peeling foot-wide sheets of it off and tossing every few weeks.

When they are on the glass, they are not bad to control. Trying to get them off rockwork is a lot harder. I agree with the above keep it at least 2" from any rock.

If you want to contain them on the rockwork or just get rid of them altogether you can always smother the mat with some epoxy. Anything that encrusts or grows from a mat such as GSP can be dealt with this way.

What do you do with the epoxy after? Does it just come off after the GSP dies?

I enjoy them and the early success with GSP and Jasmine polyps kept me in the hobby when other things seemed so hard.

Ugh, I isolated mine on an island on the sand bed... runner snuck up behind my rock structure without me noticing. Not a chance in hell that's coming off any time soon...

Nothing, it basically just becomes part of the rock. Coralline algae will grow over it given time and you'll never even know the GSP were there.
